About the city

Santarém is a small city overseeing the Tagus river, and not far away from Lisbon, about 70km, with more or less 62200 inhabitants.

Santarém had an important role in Portuguese History. It is full of History and rich in architecture. Especially the Gothic architecture in religious monuments as it is considered the “Gothic capital of Portugal”. It is also famous for horses and bull fighting and in recent times it was from here that the revolution that led to democracy in Portugal was initiated.
